BottomsUpOrange – Sewing!!!!!

By: Christine Cardimen

I had no idea this was so much fun!!!! After I conquered (lol) the jean skirt for my friend, I looked up a wrap skirt sewing pattern and found one online that looked ‘beginner’ friendly! Here’s the YouTube link (by Jess Dang) below!

I think she’s very organized and clear, so I was able to follow along really well. I didn’t have fabric, so I pieced together a patchwork piece of fabric so it was big enough to cut the skirt pieces.

Then I wrote down the instructions! Very helpful!

Part1
Part2
Part3

Next, since I didn’t have sewing paper, I made my own!

My sewing paper lol!

Then I dove into making the pattern (quite hastily I might add)!

Step1
Step2 (1/2 of the back)
Step3 (1/2 of the back & 1 front wrap side)…NOTE that I cut the wrap side WAY too short and had to piece more fabric in later to fix it!!!
Step4 (the too short wrap side)
Step5 (1/2 back folded over makes a full back!)
Step6 (both wrap sides on top of the back & I fixed the length of the wraps in front)!
I’m going to call this Step7, Step8, Step9, and Step10! Somewhere in there is ‘make the ruffle’ which is really super cool to do, but also really hard & I kept breaking the thread which then means re-do!!!!
Step11 – Sew the ruffle on backwards 1x & remove! Step12 – Sew the ruffle on backwards 2x & remove! Step13 – Figure out how to sew the ruffle on right!!!
Step14 – Admire my work….ahhhh!!!!

I guess I don’t have pictures of the strap, but the strap came next, 1st making it, and 2nd attaching it.

Final skirt with side1 of wrap & pocket!
Final skirt with side2 of wrap & pocket!
Final skirt back (I love this part)!
Final skirt pose – I LOVE IT!!!

Hope this process inspires you to try making something new too….from me, a true beginner…to other crafters…yes, we can make awesome things by hand!!!!

BUO-Christine (aka seamstress lol)!

  1. Cutest skirt EVER!!! This is my kind of sewing- drawing it on paper and using what you have. Brilliant! I have so many skirts I’ve designed on paper, but have never brought to life, so to speak. I’m going to get my notebooks back out! Thank you for this!!

  2. Wow, your skirt is fab ❤️ I recently bought a sewing machine but it’s still in the box as I have no clue how to sew. I’m definitely going to give it a go soon. I would love to be able to make something like this fab skirt!
